Sommer Gonzales Pre-Trial Hearing Report

In the case against Sommer Gonzales in the death of cyclist Joey Robinson on Santiago Canyon Road last February, there was a pre-trial hearing on January 21st to determine if there was enough evidence to send the proceedings to a jury trial.

Both sides presented evidence, examined and cross examined the CHP motor Law Enforcement Officer, and made a final statement.

The judge determined that there was enough evidence to move the process towards a jury trial with the charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and felony hit and run, plus four other lesser charges.

The defendant is in custody in lieu of $150,000 bail.

The next court date set is February 3, 2015.

Those attending in support of the victim, and perhaps to make victim’s statements were Joey’s family, the victim’s advocate, and representatives from MADD, and Jax Bicycle Centers, Joey’s employer. Victim’s statements were postponed to a future date.
