Accomplishments and Actions in 2012

The following snapshot is offered with the understanding that most issues and projects have overlapping jurisdictions.

  • Orange County.
    • Continue to identify and notify cycling public of potential routing problems
    • Started bikeway back-bone, or “BikeBone” continuing our work started with District 4
    • Promoted new cycle-related businesses opening in the county
    • Continue to promote fundraising efforts by various organizations
    • Confirmed SJC Bikepath extension to La Pata
  • OCTA /  Metrolink.
    • Suggested how MetroLink could improve cyclist travel through terminals
  • Education / Training
    • Conducted initial Bike Rodeo for Scout Troop
    • Delivered cycling training courses from July to September with the support of JAX Bicycles
  • Laguna Beach
    • Participated in Transition Laguna workshop

  • Huntington Beach
    • Participated in HB Bike Study

Issues We’re Watching

OCBC speaks for cyclists as a recognized stakeholder with the following agencies or projects:

  • Non-standard bicycle facilities –Continue to identify and work to resolve issues to conform to Complete Street standards or better
  • City of San Clemente – Signage change from “Share the Road” to “Bikes May Take the Lane”
    • Continue to implement Pacific Coast Trail improvements,
    • Advise on City Bike Plan
  • Higher Level Education for Traffic Engineers and Planners

    • Organized and supported training course
  • Orange County Flood Control. Santa Ana River Trail, recreational bicycle and pedestrian trails proposal from Green River to Gypsum Canyon
  • Santa Ana River Trail (SART) Orange County Parks and Recreation (RRTAC), Santa Ana River Trail 10 mph speed limit postings
  • Anaheim ARTIC regional transportation center, citywide bicycle facilities and impact on SART.
